If I'd know how much more fun it is to play this amp with the 4 way foot switch I would have and should have bought it sooner! Of course in a perfect world you should be able to select which effect you want and turn the brightness on and off, but what the heck..the amp remembers your last effect setting for you and that's half the battle. Being able to go between dirty and clean, turn the reverb on and off, lead boost, and effect on/off is worth having this foot controller. They are hard to find at a decent price so if you find and affordable one don't pass it up. It makes the Haze 40 and Haze 15 a lot more enjoyable to play and more versatile musically. Vintage tube tone with perks in a compact up to date version.
Ok the Marshall Haze 40, first off was the second one I purchased through E bay because the first one which was brand new was defective! So that kind of alarmed me to wonder about the quality I would be buying from Marshall. I've had a few Marshall in my day, and at least two out of 5 Marshall's I've had, had design issues. I became interested in the Haze 40, because it seemed like a mini me version of my 1977 JMP Mark II 2 x 12 combo with a great real tube compression sound. My JMP at times is too big, too heavy for smaller clubs, so I was drawn to the Haze 40. Whew, sorry for all the background, but the Haze 40 is a very good sounding amp for the size and the price. With lots of effects included, it's makes it a fun amp to have. I have found that without effects though, the amp is ... But it's a nice affect. Now for electric, this amp freaking rocks and again with that singing tube compression it reminds me of my mid 70s JMP model. I don't feel this amp is very appropriate for metal though unless you look for vintage type tone, for the Haze is more reminiscent of that 70s rock tube tone, that made solos so appealing. This amp will make your solos sing whether they are rocking or mellow. If your into bluesy, or Jimi burning sounds, you can find it with haze 40. For mellow, the notes are right there hanging on your every selection. I do feel this is a very versatile amp, with all its features. 2 channels, and effects include digital reverb, echo, chorus, flange, delay, and of course overdrive. (Which s a bit noisy) one more great feature, effect loop. Definitely new for Marshall rock amps and at an affordable price. So you don't have to use the on board effects if you have your own pedal set ups. You have your effect loop. You tube these amps to hear their tone. If you like vintage tube tone like the JMP etc, you can now get them back at a compact version with perks. I may upgrade my speaker though. So I would give this amp a 4 1/2 out of 5 star rating!

I use a Fractal Audio setup for live gigging so I had no intention of using this on stage. I also have a Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket, so I figured that would be the comparison mark. First, it looks distinctly Marshall. That's a matter of taste, I suppose, and there is a love/hate thing out there with Marshall amps. Personally, having grown up in the late 60's through the 70's I will always have a soft spot for that script logo. It's a classic, as much as anything out there. I've been a Boogie guy since the 80's, and a Fractal devotee for the last 4 years, but I have always wanted a Marshall in the collection, so there it is. ... Firing it up was a fairly simple affair, since I have loads of time on tube amps. It works like like you'd expect and that's proper. I just set all the tone knobs at 12 o'clock, turned the reverb up a touch, turned the effects off altogether. I tested with a Telecaster and a PRS 513. The Tele has Seymour Duncan pickups, a Jerry Donahue bridge and a vintage mini hum bucker at the neck. Sound: Clean channel sounds pretty darned good, which was somewhat of a surprise considering Marshalls aren't known for their undistorted offerings. The Tele can make any amp sound good, but the PRS will tell the truth and the truth, in this case, wasn't bad at all. Not spectacular in the Deluxe reverbish vein, but entirely usable. The overdrive channel sounds like, well, a Marshall. Not a current DSL or TSL or OD version Marshall, but the less fuzzy classic Marshall. I am 53 years old and have been playing since 16, so this is the Marshall I know. Interestingly, if you control it with the gain knob it sounds more like the master volume versions, but if you control overdriving with the master knob it sounds like the non-master (make it loud to sound right) Marshalls. Awesome. And loud, by the way. Don't underestimate the 40 watts. I have a feeling it could shake the walls through a 4x12 cabinet. The effects are usable, nothing worse or better. As I bought this as a pickup and go amp, having effects onboard is cool, and they won't embarrass you. Don't compare them to the best out there, seriously, it wouldn't be fair. For what this real EL-34 driven amp costs, the effects are essentially free anyway. And they remember settings per channel which makes them even more useful. Don't like them? Turn them off! I think they are a big plus here and will save me dragging along foot pedals. Unless your name is The Edge, you probably don't need more than this for jamming. Compared to the Boogie, there turns out to be no comparison. Really. As it is in the world of the top of the line Marshalls and Boogies, they are two totally different animals. Kind of like Coke and Pepsi. They may do the same thing, but probably not for the same person. As a player, I am more familiar with the Boogie. As a music listener, the Marshall is immediately familiar. Fortunately, I have a job, this is America, and I can have both. What I don't like: It's a touch heavy. I have found weight to be the separator between good small amps and amateur small amps, so in the world of "real" amps, it is average heavy. I never cared for the controls on the top back, and still don't. Overall, awesome amp for the price and highly recommended for lovers of classic Marshall tone.

These amps are a steal. If you love the older Marshall sounds. All tube El34 power x2. 1x12 combo. Marshall tones from yesteryear to present. Other reviewer's stated less fizzy or fuzzy distortion...i agree. You can not run an extension cabinet without unplugging the internal speaker . Cleans are sweet bell like or pushed edge of breakup ear candy. That's my take on this classy combo. Tone is very subjective. I am 59 years young. Made in India Marshall? With great tone? Go figure. Don't let the secret out. A nice addition to my tube amp arsenal for sure. Bang for buck...yes. Spend some time with this amp and you will be treated to some awesome Marshall sounds. What an amp!!! Just love that marshall growl. Listen to what I say... This is a Great Amp!!! Great Effects, Bell Like Clean... It really sparkles!!! And did I mention that Marshall Growl?!?!? I also have the the Haze 15, and man, what an amp. I have owned fenders and mesas, nothing even comes close... I have a Jubilee, the old players know what these are, and I dont like to take it out anymore. I play it in my living room. You can play either of the Haze series with a band and a loud drummer. They really cut through... Dont guess on what an amp will sound like. Try out a friends or go to the music store and try out several brands. I did, and I came back to Marshall.
